Zipp 353 NSW Carbon Disc Brake Road Wheel Description:

Zipp has revamped their lightweight and aerodynamic 353 NSW Tubeless Disc Brake Road Wheel to improve the performance of the wheel while also incorporating technology that makes it easier than ever to monitor the health and safety of the tires. At the center of the wheel is a brand new lightweight ZR1 SL hub that is packed full of ceramic bearings that not only are lighter in weight than comparable steel bearings, the ceramic bearings are far rounder and harder, improving long term durability and reducing rolling resistance. The rear SRAM XDR or Shimano Road HG freehub have a proven and robust 6-pawl driving mechanism with 66 points of engagement, allowing for efficient and rapid propulsion. Lightweight straight pull Sapim CX-Ray spokes fill the gap between the rim and the hubs, and these lightweight spokes have a subtle blade profile for improved aerodynamics; as an additional benefit, these spokes also enable a smooth ride, are incredibly durable, and exhibit minimal stretch so the wheels will stay truer through the service intervals.

While the center of the 353 NSW Wheel is impressive, the rim is where these wheels shine. Zipp started by revising the layup of the unidirectional carbon fibers to infuse extra strength into the rims without adding weight. Next, a Sawtooth rim profile with Hyperfoil Nodes and HexFin ABLC dimple pattern along the sides and center smooth out and speed up the airflow over the surface. Further improving the aerodynamics is a hookless rim bead shape that allows a bike tire to naturally have a smoother junction between the tire and rim; those hookless rim sidewalls will improve the impact strength of the carbon fiber rims and also makes it more difficult to damage and pinch the sidewall of a tire during an impact. As impressive as the construction of the rims are, perhaps the most revolutionary feature of these wheels is the integrated a Zipp AXS Wheel Sensor that will allow a rider to monitor and analyze the tire pressure in real time without needing to attach a bulky external device to the valve stem; this allows a rider to fine tune the tire pressure before and during a ride so they can optimize the performance and speed of their setup in an ever-changing riding environment. Combine the hubs, spokes, rim, and everything else together, and the result is a lightweight and ultra-high performance wheel that will enable a rider to ride confidently, farther, and faster than ever before.

Notes: The max recommended system weight of these wheels (weight of the bicycle, rider, and anything else on the bike when riding) is 250lbs (114 KG). Rim shape and width is optimized for use with 30mm wide tubeless road bike tires. 353 NSW wheels are intended only for use on roads/hard tarmac and are not approved for use when gravel or off-road riding.
